Bus route No. 33 to be replaced by trolleybus route No. 3 as of April 1

"Rīgas satiksme" reminds that starting from April 1 bus route No. 33 will be closed and replaced by trolleybus No. 3, which will be running from the Central market to Kundziņsala with the same intervals. Actually, it means that some runs of trolleybus No. 3 will be extended from the Sarkandaugava terminal to Kundziņsala, which will be indicated on the vehicle, accordingly. The service will be provided by trolleybuses equipped with diesel generators, which will be used on the part of the route between Sarkandaugava and Kundziņsala. Due to these changes, the schedule of trolleybus No. 3 will also change, accordingly.

The bus is replaced by trolleybus for economic reasons, as the latter is comparatively cheaper to operate. Another reason is that bus route No. 33 and trolleybus route No. 3 fully overlapped between the Central Market and Sarkandaugava. Given the high traffic intensity on trolleybus route No. 3, it will be easier to control the regularity of traffic between the city centre and Kundziņsala in case of traffic jams and bad weather conditions: if there would be long delays, dispatchers would be able to launch an additional vehicle onto the route to deliver passengers to the necessary destination.

If a customer has a one-month ticket for bus route No. 33, he/she can use it on trolleybus route No. 3 until the ticket expiry date, without registering the trip. Customers, who want to get back the residual value of the ticket, should go to one of customer service centres.
